Hello to all of Jeri Livingstone’s dear SOS friends,
This is her son Bob and her granddaughter Kendra. It is with sadness – but also some relief – that we must let everyone know that this wonderful lady passed away Sunday evening, December 1st, and is now with her husband Bob, son Rick, sister Lynne and so many family members and close friends from throughout her long and wonderful life.
She had to go to the hospital on October 25th, where they found some infections and AFib. She was there for about 10 days before improving enough to go into a rehab facility where she hoped to get strong enough to move into an assisted living facility that Kendra had found. She was going to move in with her little rescue dog, Buddy. She adamantly tried to keep her condition quiet. She didn’t want to be rude! However, she told us countless times: “I know people care about me, but they ask me how I’m doing and I just don’t have an answer for that and that’s very frustrating!”.
After about 12 days in the rehab facility, with a little bit of physical and occupational therapy, there was slight improvement in her mobility, however, she woke up on November 25th with a terribly high fever, amazingly low blood pressure, a high heart rate and some infections. She was moved across the street from the Rehab Facility into Garden Grove Community Hospital. She was aware of what was going on, and while some life-threatening conditions were generally put at bay, she was not getting better from a baseline of when she went into the hospital. We agreed to an intubation tube to try to improve her blood/oxygen levels and while that generally stabilized her, she was merely not getting worse, and certainly not getting better.
Two doctors both agreed that there was “a slim chance she could fight everything off after a week or two of sedation and intubation, but there was only the slimmest chance of turning things around if she did in fact get any better”.
Her medical directive was clear that she did not want her life to be artificially prolonged in the event of such conditions, so we gave the doctors permission to remove the intubation tube on Sunday, while keeping her calm and sedated and she peacefully passed soon after that, with Kendra at her bedside.
We apologize for the non-personal method of letting everyone know about what has happened, but when you have as many friends and beloved people in your life as Jeri Livingstone did, sometimes, sadly, quantity has to supersede quality. She commented several times about how kind and professional the caregivers around her were, and we thank all of them.
It is unlikely we will schedule any kind of a memorial service until after the start of the New Year but would announce anything like that here as well as thru many friends.
Thanks, Bob and Kendra
Greetings to all the friends of Jeri Suzanne Hemphill Livingstone! We had a Celebration of Life for her on Saturday, January 18th, from Noon to 3:00 pm "Under the Tent" at El Dorado Park Golf Course. Located at 2400 Studebaker Rd. Long Beach 90815
We had "mingling" with a luncheon sandwich bar with hosted beer/wine and sodas from Noon to about 2:00 pm, a program from roughly 1:00 to 2:00 pm and mingling again until 3:00 pm, when they began setting up for another function.
For those who could not attend, for whatever reason, we completely understand! We had a videographer capture the program and will provide a QR code for that. Below is the slideshow set to music she requested; that honored her, her family and her pets. We will post those on all of our FaceBook pages or send them to anyone who asks for them by text or email.
Thank you for all your love and support to her and her family.
